Artist Charlotte Haywood‘s recent show is called Green Influx, exhibited at A-M Gallery in Newtown, Sydney (15 July – 1 August 2015). As part of this set of works Charlotte investigated sign languages from Central Australia, accessing the Iltyemiltyem Central Australian Sign Language Dictionary. She worked from the video in Iltyem-iltyem to create 7 woven representations of signs, consulting with our project team for permissions and about their meanings. The works can be seen in photographs of the Green Influx show on Charlotte Haywood’s website. There is also a commentary on the Green Influx show here.
As part of Green Influx, Charlotte filmed 4 women from the Western Desert signing, including Tjukaparti James, a senior Pitjantjatjara woman from Docker River. Charlotte’s video work of Tjukaparti James is really beautiful – you can see it here: Tjukaparti James – a film by Charlotte Haywood.
