This little clip shows Molly Napurrurla Presley, signing in front of the blue backdrop (the signadome curtain over the plywood panel). Here we are just starting a session, using video prompts to elicit reciprocal constructions (meaning: ways of saying that people are doing things to each other). In this little clip, Molly confirms her understanding of the task, that she will provide descriptions of the action on the screen in front of her, using iltyem-iltyem.
The video prompts are a set put together by linguists at the Max Planck Institute in Holland – they recorded their own reciprocal antics, chasing each other, hitting each other, sitting next to each other, even delousing each other.
